It’s officially Hatch Chile Season at Price Chopper!
With all the talk about the summer’s hottest chile pepper, let’s get down to the basics of Hatch Chiles.
What do they taste like?
These chile peppers are known for their slightly sweet, spicy and smokey flavor and aroma similar to garlic and onion. Often regarded as the best tasting chile pepper, Hatch Chiles also have a hot heat level of 800-1,1400 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).
Why are they so popular?
Hatch Chiles only grow in New Mexico from August to September, making them a seasonal delicacy. These peppers may be hard to find, but are well worth the wait!
Best ways to use Hatch Chiles
Hatch Chiles work great as a spicy addition to any meal, but they really shine in homemade salsas, sauces, enchiladas and other Mexican-inspired dishes. Roasting the peppers brings out an intense smokey flavor, and is one of the more popular preparation methods.
